How much does a resin bound driveway cost per m² in Greater Manchester?
Two things set the price: the area, and what has to happen underneath it. A drive that needs a full dig-out and new sub-base costs more per m² than one with a sound existing base that can be overlaid. Aggregate choice and edging add a little. Resin driveway vs block paving — which is better?
Resin bound is permeable (no planning permission, no puddles), has no joints for weeds to grow through, and is laid as one seamless surface. Block paving is cheaper for very small areas and easier to lift for repairs, but joints weed, blocks sink, and it needs re-sanding. For most driveways in Sale and Altrincham, resin bound costs a similar amount over 10 years and looks better for longer.
Is a resin driveway cheaper than tarmac?
Usually no — tarmac is the cheapest surface up front. Resin bound costs more initially but doesn't soften in summer, doesn't crack at the edges, and doesn't need planning permission because it drains. Over the life of the drive the gap narrows, and resin holds its appearance in a way tarmac doesn't.
What problems do resin driveways have, and how do you avoid them?
Almost every resin failure comes from the base, not the resin: cracking from a weak sub-base, loose stone from the wrong mix ratio, and cloudy patches from laying in damp or cold conditions. We prepare and compact the sub-base properly, use a UV-stable resin at the correct ratio, and don't lay in the wet — which is why we'd rather move a date than rush a drive.
What colours can I choose for a resin driveway?
Natural stone blends from warm golds and buffs through greys, silvers and charcoals — we bring samples to your survey so you can hold them against your brickwork rather than choose from a screen. Contrasting borders and block edging are the most popular way to frame the surface.
Can a resin driveway be repaired?

Is a resin bound driveway slippery when wet?
No — the stone texture gives it grip, and because it's permeable water drains through rather than sitting on top. Where extra grip is wanted (steep drives, steps) a fine anti-slip aggregate can be added to the top layer.
How long does a resin bound driveway last?
A properly installed resin bound driveway typically lasts 15–25 years. The key is the base: we prepare and compact the sub-base before laying, which is what prevents cracking and sinking over time.
Do I need planning permission for a resin driveway?
Usually not. Resin bound surfacing is permeable and SUDS-compliant, so in England a new or replacement driveway of any size normally doesn't need planning permission — unlike non-permeable surfaces over 5m².
What's the difference between resin bound and resin bonded?
Resin bound mixes the stone and resin together before it's hand-trowelled, giving a smooth, permeable finish. Resin bonded scatters stone onto a resin layer — it's cheaper but not permeable, and loose stone comes away over time. We install resin bound.
How soon can I use my new driveway?
You can typically walk on a resin bound driveway after around 24 hours and drive on it after around 48 hours, depending on the weather during curing.
